Looking Ahead

Beyond Landfill Waste Reduction...what's next
When diverting ink and toner from landfills is simply not enough.

The numbers are staggering. Each year nine hundred million pounds of imaging waste makes its way to already over-burdened landfills. In recent years manufacturers and retailers have instituted mail-back and store return programs for empty cartridges. Those programs have certainly helped ease the strain on landfills however they come at a tremendous cost to the environment.

Those mail-back and store return recycling programs while preventing landfill waste actually increase the carbon footprint associated with this waste to begin with. How? It’s actual quite simple, each of these programs purposely bypass a critical sustainability management reclamation process. Bypassing that process forces millions of tons of CO2 emissions into our air while draining oil reserves of hundreds of millions gallons of oil annually. Obviously with each passing day these programs divert waste from landfills however their trade-off effects bring us closer to a grave point of irreversibility.

NCS Renewable is pleased to announce it has launched its Closed Loop Imaging Waste Management Program™ for ink and toner cartridge waste that combines industry best diversion, reclamation, and recycling practices delivering the most sustainable and environmentally responsible imaging waste solution possible. Closed Loop Imaging Waste Management halts the massive carbon footprint and environmental damage caused by manufacturer mail-back and store-return programs. Organizations implementing this program will receive an important E-Waste recycling certification from the Environmental Protection Alliance.
